The most predictable way to obtain a quality impression is to start with healthy tissue. Pre-restorative planning should include any necessary periodontal treatment, patient hygiene instruction and caries control.

Common errors in impressions include tears, bubbles, voids, debris entrapment, tray burn-through, and lack of catalyzation of the material. Many of these errors unfortunately show up at the restorative margin. Details are critical at the margin for the dental lab technician to accurately trim the die. Without an accurate defined margin, a successful restoration cannot be obtained. The marginal area tends to collect debris, blood and lymphatic exudates.

This CE webinar demonstrates how to avoid these downfalls of impression taking by utilizing a hemostatic gel in conjunction with or without retraction cord.   ( disclaimer , AGD PACE Statement )
