In 2017 the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry released Clinical Guidelines for the Use of Vital Pulp Therapy in Primary Teeth with Deep Carious Lesions. The guidelines serve as a basis to inform clinicians of the current best evidence for treating children.
The main goal in treating deep carious lesions in primary teeth is to maintain a healthy tooth structure and radicular bone to allow the primary tooth to serve in function until natural exfoliation. Treatment modalities that are currently used include indirect pulp therapy, direct pulp therapy, and the coronal pulpotomy. This CE webinar will cover treatment modalities for deep carious lesions in vital primary teeth, and the use of bioceramics to achieve clinical success.
Upon completion of this CE webinar, the student will be able to: • Determine the correct treatment modality for deep carious lesions in primary teeth. • Understand the biological basis for vital pulp therapy in primary teeth • Describe differences between currently accepted materials for pulpotomies in primary teeth • Understand the AAPD Clinical Guidelines as they pertain to vital pulp therapy in primary teeth • Implement the following technique: bioceramic pulpotomies for primary teeth.
